I see several RN cruisers in the fire-support plan for Utah Beach (Black Prince, Hawkins, Enterprise) and the monitor Erebus - no names are given for the destroyers.

I had read someplace that at least two RN destroyers had joined the gun line and went in very close to destroy MG positions and help get the US forces off the beach but I'm damned if I remember where...

The incident was between 9PM and 10PM - I submit that visibility, and thus the ability to recognize anything, would have been significantly compromised.

Instituted on short notice about June 3 (or so), intended to at least reduce the incident of 'blue on blue' AA vs aircraft.Didn't always work, but it was better than nothing.Based on RAF experience...
